It's the weekend!

Hello Everybody! I hope your weekend has started off as great as mine has. Friday, yesterday, was a great day. Lately it has been raining, so I have not really had a chance to take pictures (or take them as I wish), but this weekend is supposed to be nice and sunny. After living through  a Minnesotan winter, 50ºF and the like are not as cold as they used to be. Well, continuing with my Friday, we have an assignment for Professor Huergo's class, and that is that we have to keep a diary. Not one where we write how we feel or how much we may miss something, but it is more about writing observations. We have a number of specific entries to include. For example, drawing maps of Madrid as we are getting to explore it more; it is our duty to get lost and familiarize ourselves so that each map becomes more intricate. I have already started my first one, and amazingly enough, I have explored quite a bit! Another series of entries have to be about how the employees attitudes change once you become a "regular"- which I thought was great since I already started doing that here. Another one, which I know that I am going to enjoy, is of taking a bus ride-- from the very first stop to the last-- and just writing down all of observations AND listening to someone's conversation while transcribing it (in other words- eavesdropping!). In the end, I know that it will be a great way to remember Madrid. Not only will it be a great memory to keep (and show my family in Mexico since it will be in Spanish!) but it will also help me remember my experience many years from now.

On a different note, this weekend is bound to be exciting. Saturday night, all the way up until 6A on Sunday, people are going to be roaming the streets- walking, watching plays in theaters, going to art galleries at night, just about anything and everything you can imagine. The city closes the main streets to traffic and allows pedestrians to roam about as they wish. It is a night when nobody sleeps! Generally, you can do that on weekends too, but it is only going to bars and such. This time, it is about a cultural experience at night in Madrid. As students, we have monitors who are also students, but they are Spanish. My monitor is named Marina, and our group will be meeting later tonight so that we may enjoy it with her and her friends. As for homework, well, that can wait until Sunday. Besides, most places are closed Sundays by order of the government.

Honestly, I just wanted to update you on what will happen this weekend. Friday night, almost the entire group went out to a bar. That in itself was quite amusing because you can imagine a group of 12 or 13 students walking around trying to find a place big enough for us! It was a great way to get to know more of the students from my program. One thing I should say, people are quite nice here. If you are lost and ask for directions, I am assuming depending on the way you ask, they enthusiastically advise you where to go. Perhaps once or twice you'll get a jokester, but what would city life be like if didn't have them?

Now, I am off to lunch with my host sister! Until next time.
