I'm on (was) on a plane!

My observations thus far? The Amsterdam airport is too amusing to observe. Already I have entered into a world in itself. This is literally like a little city- shops, cafés, restaurants- the whole deal. And as is found in all cities, we have our personalities. The short man with the tall woman, the family of ten, people from all over world, the mysterious guy who sits alone contemplating who-knows-what, the girl - who is probable my age- who keeps coming back-and-forth on the moving pathway, and of course, the tourist. Obviously I have not named every type of personality, but those are some of the few that stood out to me.

The plane ride was long and boring. I left the Memphis airport at 7:30P only to arrive about nine hours later at roughly 4:00A (11A in Amsterdam). This was not a full flight, which meant that we could move around. I was in the middle row with an aisle seat, but of course i prefer window seats when there is not a full flight. Well, the lady next to me had left her seat and she took her bag- many times when in a plane in which there are empty seats, taking everything with you means that you’re moving to a different place. So she left and i really wanted that window seat and I took it. Not too long after, i see that same older woman coming toward her seat. Let me tell you, I felt awful because I really thought she had left; otherwise, that seat would have been there to herself when she got back. Point is, she said who-knows-what (she had a heavy accent that I could not manage to comprehend)-- something “not polite”. Needless to say, I felt awful. I even managed to tell her that I would move back, that I really was not trying to take her seat. But she just stayed there and sat next to me. Well….for the next 3 hours or so I felt quite uncomfortable. So when she got up (finally I must say) to use the restroom, I quickly moved back to my own seat. Trust me, it made me feel so much better afterwards.

Unfortunately, that did not mean that I slept all through out the ride. 9 hours- probably only an hour of that asleep. I was so tired.

On A Side note….
Jeez that guy was EXTREMELY ATTRACTIVE--- he embodied everything I would imagine wonderful European men being! Oh I love and hate airports. It is here that I create those sappy love stories that Humberto detests so much. It is here where we create unimaginable romantic encounters- one look and our minds immediately create some sort of novel. This place, this wonderful and awful place- where we see this romantic protagonist of our in-a-minute novel only one time, and if we see them again, we will probably never remember the spontaneous love story we created. In a way too, this semi-unimportant encounter somehow manages to make us feel human- to know that we are capable of imagining and feeling- it is satisfying.

Well, this is just the Thursday/Friday that I was on my trip. Very soon I will have my first week in Paris up as well as the second. Frankly, I have some work to do.  As I had mentioned previously, these first five weeks are going to be intense. I found out last week  just how much work. No worries, I have written a lot of what has been happening so that I mention the most important things that have happened to me-- well the most important to me that I feel you may enjoy.

Have a great Tuesday/Wednesday as I head away from procrastination! I hope you enjoy these pictures:
